Great classic book.
A baby bird hatches while his mother is out getting food. The little bird then wanders around, meeting various animals and things, trying to figure out if they are his mother. Eventually he finds his mother with a little help.
I used this book to discuss what animal or thing is on each page, and is the animal/thing the bird’s mother?
For early readers; an example page: “He did not know what his mother looked like. He went right by her. He did not see her.”

Buy Are You My Mother?
I picked this book up at the library thinking it would be a fun story. There really was no story, and it went WAY over my 3 year olds head. eg. “Never go shopping with a centipede.” and “Never hold hands with a lobster.”
The book never tells you why you should not do these things. That is a downfall for a smaller kid, but might work well for and older child who can look at the pictures and try to figure out why you might not want to take a giraffe to the movies.
Really fun, colourful pictures.

This is a level 2 book in the Scholastic Reader series.
My daughter (6 yrs. old) is a science nut, and loves this series. I love them too, as it really fun way to get kids interested in science.
This book is almost 30 pages long. An example of one page is ” Wanda is at the nurse’s office. The nurse looks at Wanda’s throat. “It doesn’t look good,’ she says. “You need to see a doctor.”
Each page has the children in the story saying things in cartoon style, with bubbles over their heads. There are also little reports that the children in the book have written. eg. What Are Antibodies? by Tim.
Great books for kids who are curious how things work.

A great book for children who are just staring to enjoy books and learn their colours. Nice, bright pictures from the Rubbadubbers’ show. The book asks simple questions like, “Reg is orange. Do you see anything else that’s orange?”
Whenever a colour is mentioned the print/type is in that colour.
The book I have is board book with a nice squishy cover. I think I may have picked it up at the dollar store years ago.

Goodnight Gorilla is one of my son’s favourite books. The Zookeeper is locking up the zoo for the night. The first animal he says good night to, is the gorilla. The gorilla takes his keys (unknowingly to the zoo keeper) and lets himself out of the cage. As the zoo keeper says goodnight to each of the animals the gorilla is right behind him letting the animals out.
The animals follow him to his house and join him in his bed and elsewhere , until his wife notices and takes the animals back to the zoo. Somehow that gorilla is able to sneak back into the zookeepers bed at the end.
Very cute book. Lots of repetition “Good night, _________ “. Not a lot of words. Great pictures, wonderful for discussion about what is happening in the pictures.

This book is about a little fish that says hello to many different fish friends to eventually run into his mom (the fish he loves the best), and giving her kisses.
Lots of colour. I love how it is illustrated. Lots of descriptions as the little fish says hello to each of the fish he meets (big, stripy, eye shaped, thin, blue, ones with numbers on them, etc.)
Might be a nice Mother’s day book, as the fish that he loves the best is his mom.
